In this week’s episode of Cut To The Chase, my co-host Diego Traglia and I talk about lessons learnt from hiring staff.
How do you make the right decisions on hiring staff?
Don’t let the pressure get to you when you are interviewing a potential employee. You must learn to trust your instincts as you cannot simply live in hope things will work out. Interviews for staff can feel like a gamble, therefore you must be prepared. You often don’t truly know how someone will work in your business until they’re put under pressure. It’s important not to make rookie mistakes early on.
If you want that superstar employee, one that will take your business to the next level, consider giving them what they want financially. By doing so, you will save money in the long run and ensure they stay loyal to your business. A happy employee will be more motivated to work harder for you. Give them a reason to respect you, and to feel valued, and you will reap the rewards. You get what you pay for in life!
Aaron Auction Advice #892
Many times the best people in the business are those not in the job market. When hiring, make sure you look further afield than simply looking at applicants. See who is doing well in similar roles, making a name for themselves and go to them with an offer. As Diego says, don’t be stingy either. You must show how much you value their work, and that you are determined to have their talent on your team with a generous offer. Most importantly, make sure you do your due diligence in checking this persons credentials and work ethic. Don’t waste your time on cheaper options, they will only cost you time and money long term.
